The Environmental Protection Department (hereinafter "EPD") of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (hereinafter "the Government") is committed to ensuring that all personal data provided under various applications/ functions submitted through this Website are handled in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance hereafter ("PDPO").

EPD will collect information when you register with this Website, use our on-line services, or communicate with us. In the process, you may be required to provide your personal information including, but not limited to, your name, your company/ organization name, telephone number, fax number, address, email address, occupation etc. If specific information is requested but not supplied, this Website may be unable to provide the requested service.

EPD will record visits to this Website without collecting any personal identifiable information of users. Such general statistics are collected for the compilation of statistical reports and the diagnosis of problems with or concerning computer systems to help EPD improve this Website. Under the PDPO, you have a right to request access to, and to request correction of, your personal data provided.

For different purposes and at different times, users may be invited to provide personal data to this Department through this website on a voluntary basis. The data will be collected and handled in accordance with our general personal data practice in following the Data Protection Principles above. The data will be secured by the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology with our website during network transmissions with access restricted to authorized personnel only.

When browsing this website, users may have cookies temporarily stored in their computer. The purpose of cookies is to facilitate navigation only. We will not collect any personal data under this circumstance. Users have a choice not to accept the cookies by configurating their internet browser settings, but in this case, full functionality of the website may not be properly provided.

Search service on this website is provided by an independent contractor of the Government. The independent contractor does not collect personal identifiable information while serving search results through our website. The independent contractor will share the anonymous data it collects through the search service for compiling traffic analysis on this website. This Department will not match the data obtained from any such search activity with any personal data possibly held by us.

The Government is committed to ensuring that all personal data submitted under an Application is handled in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap 486) (PDPO). Personal data provided in relation to an Application may be used by the Government and disclosed among them for the following purposes–

1. the processing and authentication of Application;
2. payment of subsidy and any refund thereof;
3. the daily operation of the Subsidy Scheme;
4. meeting the requirements to make disclosure under the requirements of any law;
5. statistics and research;
6. promotion; and
7. any purposes relating to any of the above.

Personal data provided in an Application will be kept in confidence. They may however be disclosed by the Government to any of the following parties for the purposes set out in (a) to (f) above–

1. any person (including the agent, the contractor, the consultant or the third party service provider of the Government) who is involved in the Subsidy Scheme; and
2. any person to whom the Government is under an obligation to make disclosure under the requirements of any law.

According to Sections 18 and 22 and Principle 6 of Schedule 1 of PDPO, the individuals whose personal data are provided in an Application have a right of access and correction with respect to the personal data provided including the right to obtain a copy of the personal data provided in the Application.
